Bill Brandt

Choosing a master of photography is a challenging assignment. Bill Brandt attracted me because of his outright refusal to fall into the Nazi ways that were sweeping his country as a child and then again with his use of light in his pictures. I enjoy night photography very much because I feel that is a rich and vibrant time especially under the light of a full moon. He experimented with nude photos and did landscapes and portraits with equal skill. I like the fact that he never settled on one style but rather experimented with multiple styles throughout his career. Here are few of his pics that first drew me in.

Photoshop manipulation outdoor

This is a picture of my friend Brandon with his son Declan. I cropped the photo and then I used the sharpen tool to bring it out a bit more and the brighten tool to dial down the sunlight. Overall I like how the picture came out. He's dressed the way he is for a medieval recreation we do where we wear period armor and fight.

Indoor picture manipulation

This is Kodi, my seven year old Samoyed. The original picture was taken on a bright sunny day so I thought I would edit it and try to bring him more into focus and dull down the light a bit. I used the image adjustment tools in Photoshop to lower the brightness and sharpen the picture. The tool is interesting in that it allows you to sharpen lens and light errors. After I sharpened it I used the photo filter tool and used "Warming 81" to filter out some of the light. I then cropped the picture to take out the extra furniture to get the final picture.

Interesting assignment, though Photoshop has gotten a lot more complicated since the last time I've used it.

Picasa cropping assignment

I chose a picture of our two dogs out in the snow.  I cropped the right side of the picture to remove some extraneous landscapre.

Picasa lighting assignment

This is the picture of my dog Kodi, I thought this was too dark and decided to use this one for the light project on Picasa.
This is the same picture after lightening the picture.
